Say Hello to AI Technology for Creative Sellers

As if your business couldn't reach new heights, Artificial Technology (AI) is now at your fingertips. If you're not sure what AI is or how it can benefit your business, don't worry!

In this blog post, I'll walk you through everything you need to know about AI technology. I'll cover the different types of AI applications, current trends in robotics and machine learning, and the benefits of using AI in your business. But that's not all! We'll also talk about the risks and challenges of adopting AI technology and give you the next step for implementing it into your business.

Types of AI Applications

AI technology can seem intimidating, but it's actually pretty straightforward. There are three categories of AI applications: Narrow Artificial Intelligence, Strong Artificial Intelligence, and Super Intelligence. Each category gets progressively more powerful. Narrow Artificial Intelligence focuses on a very specific, simple task. Strong Artificial Intelligence a "type of artificial intelligence that creates mental capacities, cognitive processes, and behaviors that mimic those of the human brain" (analyticsteps.com). Finally, Super Artificial intelligence is believed to far outperform the human brain; think about the movie iRobot.

As a t-shirt seller, you'll be using Narrow AI, which is specifically designed to carry out particular tasks.

Now, let's talk about some of the different AI applications that are available for t-shirt sellers.

  • Chatbots allow customers to get immediate feedback and ask questions without the need for human intervention, which can save you time and money. The majority of all sites you shop on now have a chat feature which uses programmed AI to improve the customer experience on demand.
  • Personalized recommendations based on customers' purchasing history and preferences can help you make more sales by suggesting products that your customers are likely to love. This is built into platforms such as Shopify which creates a recommended product area.
  • Image recognition technology can quickly categorize and identify images, which can save you hours of time compared to doing it manually. Think about when you are trying to find a design and you use the Google Lens search, that is AI!

The future of AI technology looks bright, with current trends in robotics and machine learning meaning that we can expect even more accurate and stable technology in the future.

Benefits of Using AI

There are a lot of benefits to using AI. First, AI technology can streamline processes, making your business more efficient and cost-effective. Narrow AI can speed up tasks that usually take you hours to complete. Or even worse, you may skip over the tasks because of how tedious they have become. Thinking back to the example of product recommendations above, your website can generate additional sales beyond what the customer wants due to AI recommending new products.

Risks & Challenges of Adopting AI Technology

As with any new technology, there are risks and challenges associated with adopting AI technology. Privacy and security concerns are two of the most significant risks of using AI technology. AI technology involves collecting customer data and storing it in databases, making it a target for data breaches. This means, whatever you feed the machine, it may use to generate responses for the next user.

Additionally, AI technology can be subject to bias and discrimination. How AI comes up with your information may be from something other than a credible source filled with bias and prejudice. Therefore, it is very important only to accept some of what AI generates for you and to use your own discretion when using it.

What AI Can't Do

While AI technology is incredibly advanced, it's not perfect and to be quite frank, it still isn't a human. For ethical decisions, human judgment is still required. AI technology relies on human input, and it's rare for it to be 100% accurate. Think of Sonny from iRobot. Sometimes, emotion is an important factor when making rational decisions as a human which AI lacks.

The good and bad news about your business is that AI can't replicate you. This means you will still need to be heavily involved when using this tool. But, as mentioned, the good news is it can't replace you!
